Mercedes-Benz designed the 2024 CLE to thread a needle. It replaces 2-door models of both the C-Class and E-Class, though both will continue as 4-door cars. Fittingly, it’s priced right between them.
It’s part of a larger plan to shrink the Mercedes lineup by offering fewer coupes and wagons.
The 2024 CLE Coupe will start at $57,650 (including the mandatory $1,150 destination charge), neatly slotting between the prices of the two sedans.
So, if you’re shopping for a CLE because you’d like a C-Class coupe, there’s a model in your price range. If you’re looking at it as a sort of E-Class coupe, there’s a model for you as well.
Mercedes also plans a convertible version but hasn’t revealed prices for the drop-top yet.
The company will build the coupe in two versions.
The CLE 300 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The CLE 450 gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-6 good for 375 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Both send power to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Even base models get a 15-speaker Burmester 3D surround system, including driver’s-seat headrest-mounted speakers, and a panoramic sliding sunroof.
Each is available in a Pinnacle trim that adds an augmented-reality head-up display, a more advanced entertainment system, and a 360-degree security system that films around the car when parked.
