CPO Spotlight: 2021 Mazda CX-30

Mazda CX-30 Quick Facts

Introduction

First teased in 2019 at the Geneva Motor Show, the 2021 CX-30 is a petite crossover from Mazda that came to market in the fall of 2020. With all the comfort, safety, style, refinement, and performance that Mazda buyers expect, the 2021 CX-30 fits neatly in the space between the CX-3 and the CX-5.

Sleek muscle, elegant structure, well-organized space, comprehensive driver assistance, a responsive handling experience, a variety of trims, and available all-wheel drive come together at a competitive price in the 2021 Mazda CX-30. After the complications of a 2020 debut that split the launch between the two model years, the 2021 CX-30 has found its footing and risen in the subcompact crossover class.

KBB Review Highlights

The 2021 CX-30 represents Mazda’s ethos of restrained luxury and elegant power. A level of sophistication elevates the CX-30 in a class of compact vehicles, plastic, and sometimes boring. It rises above the Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, and Subaru Crosstrek with superior finish, a sporty and refined drive experience, and excellent resale.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30’s cabin is roomy and bright, available in various combinations with elevated accents. Depending on the model, buyers can choose from cloth, vegan leather, or supple Nappa leather seating and natural wood touchpoints. The attention to detail is evident from the integrated 8.8-inch infotainment system, knob controls within easy reach, simple connectivity, and speakers that have been shifted from the roof and dash to the door to improve sound quality and driver experience. Leg space is always at a premium in a compact crossover, and the 2021 CX-30 is no exception, with space for long legs found most easily in the front portion of the cabin.

In alignment with the recent offers from Mazda, the 2021 CX-30 is aesthetically beautiful. The lines are clean and fluid. The plastic cladding is minimal, and the power of reflective surfaces and stellar paint elevates the design. As you rise through the trims from the base model to the premium, Mazda includes additional safety, convenience, and comfort features like blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, heads-up display, and power-adjustable seating. Top-heavy, the mid-tier trims are light on features that differentiate them from the basic model.

Taking cues from the success of the Mazda3, the 2021 CX-30 is available in seven models with a choice of two engines. Unlike some of its class competitors, the CX-30 is not an either-or proposition. Mazda designed it for practicality and thrills, and it does both well.

The more efficient CX-30 uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine in the Base, Select, Preferred, and Premium models with an EPA rating of 25/33/28 city/highway/combined mpg with front-wheel drive (FWD). All-wheel drive (AWD) is available. A turbocharged engine powers namesake trim levels, the CX-30 2.5 Turbo, Turbo Premium, and Turbo Premium Plus, with an EPA rating of 22/30/25 mpg. Each engine provides a refined drive that is pleasant and precise, though the Turbo line feels sportier and is a delight to drive.

With more than enough power for your daily commute and enough style to keep the journey fun, the petite crossover is a welcome addition to Mazda’s SUV lineup.
