Mercedes Recalls 116,000 SUVs Over Fire Risk

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for more than 116,00 SUVs to fix a loose electrical connection that could trigger a vehicle fire.

Recalled models include the following:

Mercedes tells federal safety officials that a ground connection under the passenger’s seat can come loose thanks to a lug not properly secured at the factory. “With the high electrical currents potentially flowing through this connection, the temperature in this area might increase. As a consequence, a risk of fire cannot be ruled out.”

Drivers receive no warning as the problem develops.

To fix it, dealers “will check the bolting of the ground connection on the affected vehicles and correct it, if necessary.”

Recall repairs are always free. Automakers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Find out whether your car has any outstanding recalls with the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
